Green work 2020

It looks like there are more grapes than last year. It's a good year. With this good weather we've had... vine growth is three weeks in advance, so even if I worked on Saturdays and Sundays, I still couldn't keep up.... It's not so serious, but I have to do it all in one go, I'm nearly done but I'll have to go round the whole parcel again... It's been a bit of a race this spring, everything must be done: thin the shoots full speed, raise the wires at the same time, do it all at the same time... But now we can see the end! That feel's good. How do you think things look? It's lovely, there will be a good harvest, right now it's really healthy, it look's great, I think. Mine's the pink one. I have the bright pink one. Today we're in les Suchots sur Vosne Romanée. Right now we're raising the wires, we separate the vines... It'll be the last time before trimming. Then we wait for the harvest. As we can see here, we'll have a nice cluster set for the next vintage. For 2020, it's been going really well. Good fruit, no downy or powdery mildew pressure, so I've done few treatments, like decoctions of horsetail fern, or fermented nettle, comfrey and bracken... It's doing just fine, so... ...touch wood! I raise the wires on this side, so as not to trim the leaves or inter-nodes, It's on the South side... so as not to trim the leaves or inter-nodes, in case its hot... there'll be less sun on the grapes, and I'll lower the other side... where I'll trim the inter-nodes a bit, to verity not too many of the bunches touch... so they have space and aren't pressed together. That way they have space to air... in case ... so if it rains hard they will dry quicker. It also helps the harvesters to better pick the grapes too... We are here above des Gollardes, above Savigny-les-Beaunes, a parcel of 1.6 hectares (3.5 acres). There's nearly a half hectare of white and the rest is red. It's belonged to the Domaine for 3 years. It's in conversion to organic. It's a parcel which has suffered... hasn't much vigour, so for 3 years we've pruned short to regrow the wood.. This year the pruning has been strict, the vines have good growth, nice and green, branches well up, thick wood, so maybe next year we could envisage increasing the yield. This year's season is ahead of schedule... So this year's growth was very vigorous, plenty of shoots, good bunch set, a little less than elsewhere, but several bunches on every vine. Which is quite interesting. We're getting to the end of the green work, a last splice, tidy branches, do things like looking out for sucker shoots, etc. After 2 years working the soil at Laurent, the vines have regained their vigour, so in a few years it'll be even more lovely, with an excellent production of grapes... I'm the labourer here... which is Dessus des Gollardes I also work a hectare near d'Arnaus, at Ladoix le Cloud, which is also in conversion to organic...
