4- The vintage year that stands out for me…

Since 2010, Yannick Champ is the co-director of the Domaine Prieuré Roch. Originally from Paris, he met Henry Frédéric Roch in 2003 and left the Faculty of medicine to become "vigneron" (wine maker). He did Masters in Vineyard studies in Dijon while Henry taught him his art of culture and natural vinification. Today he represents, with Henry, the spirit and the fame of the Domaine Prieuré Roch. Ever since working here, I can’t really speak about vintages before my arrival in 2003. It was my first vintage year. I’ve tasted the previous vintages many times, but as I didn’t have a hand in making them, it’s difficult to provide insights. Therefore since 2003: The vintage year that stands out the most is 2004. 2004 was extremely difficult, between the work in the vineyards, and the difficulty to vinify, because it was only a half harvest. This meant only small amounts in the tanks, and also I was very inexperienced at the time... It was a vintage that was massacred by the press, which consumers didn’t expect at all. But today in 2010, so six years later, turned to be one of the best vintages, that this domain has produced.
