– Ploughing

At the Domaine we plough between the vines, it's a controversial practice, other domaines who work a bit like us don't plough. For us it's important because by their very nature, vines have a tendency to grow roots horizontally. Ploughing breaks the horizontal root growth, and forces the roots to push deep into the ground. This means the roots can find and take up elements... from deep down in the soil and subsoil, so now we can talk of expressing a "terroir". It's for this reason as well that young vines... are normally thought to produce "vins de cépages", rather than true "vins de terroirs".
